MXL uses a ZIP container with a META-INF/container.xml file that points to the MusicXML score document. MimiFile checks that structure before accepting the file as MXL.
MXL behaves like compressed MusicXML for conversion purposes. Unpacking it is not the same as rendering a PDF or MIDI; those outputs require the score to be interpreted by the notation engine.
Notation formats can preserve notes and score structure well, but fonts, line breaks, spacing, application-specific engraving and playback settings may change after conversion.
For Compressed MusicXML score, MimiFile currently offers 11 conversions to other formats and 4 conversions from other formats.
