Choose the target for compatibility
Select an output format that the destination app, device or publishing workflow accepts. A broadly supported delivery format and a production-oriented format can serve very different purposes.
Changes the file to one of the supported destination formats. The destination format can support different features from the source.
Audio formats are not interchangeable labels: containers and codecs determine compatibility, compression and which applications can read a file. MimiFile's audio converter decodes a supported source and creates a new output in the format you choose. Use it when a player, editor, website or delivery workflow expects a different audio format rather than merely renaming the file extension.

Changing codec or format can require decoding and re-encoding. Lossy-to-lossy conversion does not restore information already removed from the source and can introduce additional quality loss.
The conversion result is produced separately, so you can compare it with the source before deciding which version to keep.
No. Renaming an extension does not rewrite the encoded audio. A real conversion must read the source format and create data that follows the target format.
Conversion can improve compatibility, but it cannot recreate detail that was already lost in a compressed source. Re-encoding to a higher bitrate does not restore missing information.
WAV is often useful when an editing or production workflow needs uncompressed or PCM-oriented audio. Compressed formats are generally more convenient when smaller delivery files matter.
